Peanut-Better-Jam
Finally learn to jam for real

Stop just playing songs. Start actually jamming.

Most guitarists can play - but freeze the moment someone says "let's jam." Peanut-Better-Jam builds the real skills behind improvisation, musical conversation, and confident creativity.

No theory overload. No aimless noodling. Just real musical fluency.

This is the actual app - not a mockup.
1
Your fretboard, your key. Root, playing-now, and next-up notes light up live as you play through your own note order.
2
A live timeline of every note you play - root, chord tone, or outside - right as it happens, not after the fact.
3
Chord Ideas suggest what to reach for next, so you're never just staring at the neck wondering what to play.
4
Slow down, pause, jump to check in your own tempo. No eyes on you here.

Imagine trying to speak - but only borrowed sentences come out. Memorized lines, not your own voice. Or worse: nothing at all.

Anyone would think you're faking it. That you don't truly grasp what you're saying.

We learn to speak freely as children. Yet most musicians freeze the moment someone says "let's jam."

Not because they lack talent. But because they've never been shown how to practice the one skill that makes real musical conversation possible - until now.

Sound familiar?

Technique was never the problem. The moment you start jamming, everything falls apart.

You can play songs - but can't create your own ideas on the fly.
You might know scales - but they don't translate into actual music.
Backing tracks feel repetitive, and you're not sure what to practice.
Jamming with others feels intimidating, chaotic, or confusing.
Why Peanut Better Jam exists

I built Peanut-Better-Jam because I was stuck myself. Not because I couldn't play - but because I felt lost the moment the music wasn't scripted.

Every path I tried had the same gap: theory you only read, or songs you only copy, never the muscle of making something up on the spot.

I couldn't find a tool that bridged that gap, so I built my own - something that gives you a key, a groove, and your own chord order and tempo to explore, while giving you the guidance you need to master the fretboard freely, then actually listens and tells you what happened.

Improvisation isn't magic - it's a learnable language. Once you understand how musical conversation works, jamming becomes fun, expressive, and addictive.

Not more theory. More you.

This isn't a course and it isn't backing tracks. It's a loop between playing and knowing exactly what happened.

Plain theory
Freedom to actually improvise
Learning existing songs note for note
Flexibility to create your own, so you're ready for a real jam session
Rigid, one-way backing tracks
A feedback loop that actually tells you how to improve
Not copying licks
But creating ideas that sound like you
How it works

No setup, no separate metronome app, no guesswork about whether you're actually improving.

01
Build your loop

Pick any key and scale, tap out a note order on the fretboard, choose a drum groove and tempo - or let Smart Selection listen to you play and set it up for you. Need inspiration? Pick any song from our list and jam to its key and sequence.

02
Play along

Loop your sequence over a real drum pattern at your tempo. Preview the next note, see the whole neck dynamically lit up in your key, follow chord suggestions and switch grooves without breaking the loop.

03
Get told the truth

Turn on the mic and it listens as you play - root hits, chord tones, timing against the beat, all scored live. All audio processing stays in your browser; nothing is ever recorded or uploaded.

No matter your key, root, scale, mode, order, grove, tempo, or skill:

Major & Minor Pentatonic Dorian Mixolydian Blues Any tempo Any groove
Before you jump in
What do I need? Just your bass or guitar and a mic (built-in laptop/phone mic works fine). No extra hardware, no separate metronome app.
Is my playing recorded? No. All audio analysis happens live in your browser - nothing is ever recorded or uploaded anywhere.
Can I cancel any time? Yes, one click in your account settings. No email, no phone call, no "retention flow."
What if I'm a beginner? Don't know the notes on the fretboard yet? You don't need to - but you can use the app to master the fretboard, and just as importantly, actually apply them.
Your road to fluency - Imagine where you’d be in a year!

Mastery won't happen in a day. But you'll get consistent improvement, at your own tempo and in your own unique style.
